At Calle 33 we have a strong regard for the envionment. A low carbon footprint is one of our core philosophies and it is also something we consider when choosing a supplier. We recycle more than 75% of our waste and we are constantly striving to increase this figure through local council schemes.

Our bags are either made from paper or oxodegradable plastic. The additive in these bags ensures that degradation starts after a given time period wherever the bag is stored (unlike biodegradable bags which must be buried). This means that even discarded bags that end up as unsightly litter will disappear by themselves.

KUYICHI

Kuyichi have been a pioneer in the jeans and fashion industry since 2001, in response to environmental concerns. Their innovative role in exploring and developing new sustainable garment production has led to a new , accepted, conscious approach to fashion. Many brands are now following their organic revolution. They show the industry and consumers it is not difficult to trade fair.

Some of the facts surrounding cotton production are startling - Did you know that 25% of all insecticides used globally are used for growing cotton? These chemicals pollute soil and water, kill wildlife and make people seriously ill. Organic cotton is grown in chemical and pesticide free soil, which means no chemical related health risks, no environmental damage and no polluted soil.

SKUNK FUNK

40% of the fabric from the Skunk Funk label is made from ECO fabrics; soybean, bamboo, organic cotton, recycled polyester, hemp and earth positive cotton.

SOYBEAN - fabrics made with soya are less polluting than cotton due to its production process.

BAMBOO - growing where rice or corn cannot, weaving protective roots across fragile hillsides or degraded soil, providing shade and shelter for insects and animals and returning after each harvest without sowing, tilling or weeding. Bamboo is grown without pesticides or fertilisers, it produces ten times the yield of cotton on the same amount of space. Harvesting bamboo is no more upsetting than cutting grass - compare that with deforestation for cotton plantation and you can see why Mother Nature might prefer we use bamboo.

ORGANIC COTTON - fiber which protects the air, land and water. It's naturally cultivated that means a softer and more delicate touch to the skin. Certified organic cotton guarantees it has been made with respect to people and the environment.

RECYCLED POLYESTER - Drink from your water bottle....then it goes to recycling facility...wash, chop, melt and pull....this is how your bottle becomes a recycle polyester fibre. The CO2 released in this process conserves high amounts of energy, making this another eco friendly solution to garment making. Wearing it, you will be doing your part to make the planet a less plastic world.

HEMP - This sustainably grown plant fiber stands the test of time for comfort, durability and style. The plant grows very quickly, doesn't need much water and provides 2,5 times more fibre than the regular cotton plant. Hemp remains history's fiber of choice from pilots to pioneers, from mariners to mountain climbers.

EARTH POSITIVE COTTON - Organic and ethically manufactured solely using sustainable energy from wind and solar power.

Thanks to our sustainable materials, we can retain our modern lifestyles and be in greater harmony with the earth we live on!
